This is an auditory assessment test that measures the level of hearing by measuring air and bone conduction thresholds at various frequencies and with a wide range of intensities.
If the patient is suffering from hearing loss, this exam provides information about the type and extent of such hearing loss.
How is it done?
The exam is performed by an audiology technician. Headphones are placed on the patient, who uses them to hear different sounds at different frequencies and intensities. He or she only needs to signal when a sound is heard. These responses allow the audiologist to determine the patient’s hearing threshold.
